How To Be a Morning Person

First let me say that if you are a night owl, and that works for you, then there’s no reason to change if you don't want to. When you’re happy with it, so be it. I personally have always been a morning person. Rising early has many benefits - many say that it leads to increased productivity, that you'll be happier throughout the day, you can exercise first thing in the morning, and you have more time for yourself and FOR BREAKFAST. If you want to experience these and many other benefits yourself, then here are some tips on getting up earl(ier).

“Morning is wonderful. Its only drawback is that it comes at such an inconvenient time of day.”

1.       Allow yourself to sleep earlier.
You might be used to staying up late, perhaps watching your favorite TV show or scrolling down instagram. But if you continue this habit, while trying to get up earlier, sooner or later you're going to fail as you'll be constantly tired. If you don’t think you're going to fall asleep, then read while in bed. Before you know it you'll become really sleepy and might close your eyes much sooner than you think.

2.       Put your alarm far from your bed.
Otherwise you’d hit snooze. Never hit snooze. Not only is it better to not sleep with your phone right next to your head, but just keeping it on the other side of the room forces you to get out of bed so that you have to go and shut it off. By that time, you’re up and it's actually way easier to stay up than just roll over and go back to sleep. Getting back in bed is NOT an option!

3.       Welcome the new day.
Open up your blinds and get some daylight. Letting the sunlight on your face just instantly wakes you up. Or even better, get some fresh air! Go for a quick walk or simply open the windows and feel the morning breeze waking you up.

4.       Make your bed.
This habit might take you a while to get into when you’re not someone that normally makes your bed, but making it right away keeps you from crawling back inside and going back to sleep. Also, your room then looks tidier! Ah, those benefits!

5.       Change your alarm song.
Seriously. Change it to something that isn’t so annoying and won’t make you so grumpy when you wake up in the morning. Do you have a favorite song? Go for it! However, I’d recommend changing the song more frequently so that you’re not waking up to the same melody every single day.

6.       Stretch.
Start your day with some easy stretches that energize your body and get you primed for the day! By doing that you can improve your range of motion, increase circulation, and calm your mind. It's a great way to ease away any tension from the previous day or a funky sleeping position. Say no to waking up sore!

7.       Have a little morning routine.
Find something that’s enjoyable for you, and allow yourself to do it as part of your morning routine. Simply put, reward yourself! It can be a cup of warm coffee. Or it can be making yourself a tasty breakfast like oatmeal or fruit smoothie! It doesn't have to be only about food - reading a chapter of a book or meditating. Whatever comes to your mind, really! Find something to look forward to in the morning.

8.       The 15-Minute Interval
Start slowly, by waking just 15 minutes earlier than usual. So, if you're getting up at 9 AM, set your alarm on 8:45. Get used to this for a few days and then cut back another 15 minutes. And another and another. Just keep going until you get to the hour that you really want to start getting up at. Until you reach your goal. If you do this gradually then it won't be much of a shock to your body and in a blink of an eye you'll be waking up easier and earlier than ever before!

(Honestly, would you ever want to miss such a beautiful sunrise?! It's worth it....even when you have to get up at 4:45AM)
"Lose an hour in the morning, and you will spend all day looking for it." - Richard Whately

I hope these tips will help you and it'll be from now on easier to wake up with the sun.
